A message from our CEO to our NSW Community

Dear Customers,

Happy New Year to you all, and although it’s been a trying time with the evolving COVID situation in Greater Sydney, I hope many of you were able to enjoy a much needed break. 

I thought it timely to write to thank you for your continued support, both over Christmas and as we start the new year and update you on recent events in Berala. Special thanks also for wearing masks in our stores and your continued respect of our team members

Looking after you in store

Given the heightened risk of transmission across Greater Sydney and certain regional areas in NSW, we have taken the following measures to help keep us all COVIDSafe:

  • As per NSW Government directions, team members and customers in Greater Sydney must wear a mask when indoors, which includes shopping in our stores (except for under-12s or those with a medical exemption).

  • Service NSW QR-codes will appear at the front of all our stores from later this week as an optional check in.

  • Additional monitoring of social distancing is in place throughout the store and around the checkouts.

  • Please continue to use the hand sanitiser on entry and exit.

We have also been clear with our team members that if they feel unwell or are awaiting a test result, they should not come to work – and we have put special leave provisions in place to ensure there is no penalty from doing this. It is of course also important that you don’t come into a store if you feel unwell, should be in isolation, or are waiting for a COVID test result. 

Shopping with confidence online

Our e-commerce services are all open as usual with good availability of ordering windows across NSW. A reminder that we have a number of ways we can help you shop online with confidence:

  • Community Pick up and Direct to boot, which allows you to pick up for yourself or on behalf of someone else.

  • Priority Assistance for the elderly, people with disability and those in mandatory isolation. To register for Priority Assistance click here.

  • Contactless home deliveries for groceries delivered to your doorstep.

Berala status update

As you may have seen reported, an infected customer shopped in our BWS Berala store on 20th December and may have unknowingly passed on the virus to a team member. Since the first confirmation of a positive case linked to this site, we have worked with NSW Health and we have taken the following measures:

  • All 5 store team members at BWS who worked between 20th December and 31st December have been tested and are isolating for 14 days.

  • All 113 team members who worked at the Woolworths Berala Supermarket next door between 20th December and 31st December are also being tested and will isolate until they receive a negative test result.

  • We have deep cleaned BWS Berala and it will remain closed until it has clearance to reopen by NSW Health. 

  • Woolworths Berala has also been deep cleaned. 

For our customers who shop at our Berala stores, it’s important that you follow NSW Health advice if you are required to get tested and isolate. You can find out more details on specific dates and times here

Since the start of December there have been approximately 251 team members across Greater Sydney that have been tested for COVID-19 as a result of NSW Health advice on close or casual contacts at various Group stores.

As we approach 12 months since we first heard of the virus, keeping our customers, teams and communities safe remains our top priority. Thank you for playing your part and for your ongoing support, patience and understanding.
